Single User Workstation

The architecture of the single user version of Quantus which runs on a PC with either Windows 98SE, Windows ME,  Windows NT4, Windows 2000 or Windows XP, is essentially the same as the more complicated multi-user systems. This gives the user the benefit of knowing that there are no changes required to Quantus if the system needs to grow. You can copy the programs and data files from a stand alone PC to Microsoft Windows NT4, Windows 2000 or 2003 server and without making any changes to the basic accounting system you can commence processing on the new platform immediately.

The corollary of this is that you have to go through the same stages to set up a single user PC version as for a workstation attached to a network. The PC must be configured with the TCP/IP internet protocol, and the installation process will install Quantus, the Pervasive.SQL database and ProIV development environment runtime version. The impact of this is that the single user PC version of Quantus requires the same building blocks as the multi-user versions.

This sounds pretty complicated and technically that is true, however the ordinary user will not have to worry about this because the installation will create the environment for you automatically. Once installed Quantus works without any day to day management of the database or computer environment. The functionality in the accounting system is exactly the same on a stand alone PC as it is on a more complicated system. Quantus is designed to scale downwards so that the usability of the system on a stand alone PC is as good as on a large system.
